Those teaching English in China ‘integral to the health of travellers’

Posted 08 Feb 2010

People teaching English in China could find that their blood donations help save a life during this year’s World Expo.

This is according to Lu Yao, a representative from the Shanghai Blood Center, who told the Shanghai Daily that it is encouraging expats and those teaching English in China to give blood.

It is more important than ever in 2010, she added, as the city expects to welcome millions of foreign visitors between May and October, when the international event is set to take place.

Rare blood types more prevalent among Caucasians than Asian people are especially important to have in storage.

"We are making work plans for rare blood preparation and want more people, both Chinese and expats, with such blood to make donations or make contact with us to join the [donation] club," Ms Yao explained to the newspaper.

This news comes after the same news provider reported last month that expats living in China are set to be included in the country’s next census for the first time ever. ADNFCR-2167-ID-19603811-ADNFCR
